The role…

At Soho House, a Barback is responsible for assisting the bartenders in providing quality service to all guests who come to Soho House. As a Barback, you will create efficiency behind the bar by ensuring all items are stocked and easily accessible for quick access and delivery to guest. A Barback, is responsible for cleaning the bar, preparing garnishes, ensuring the bar is well stocked with napkins, ice, straws, glassware, garnishes, and all other necessities, and taking on other duties to support Bartenders and ensure that the bar operates smoothly.

A successful Barback, is knowledgeable about menu items, attentive and focused on providing the best possible service in a fast-paced environment. Seasonal Position: This role is expected to run from April through September.

Main Duties

  • Support bartenders and the bar team in delivering an exceptional member and guest experience by ensuring bars remain fully stocked, organized, and operational throughout service.
  • Assist bartenders with daily bar setup, service, and breakdown procedures in accordance with Soho House standards.
  • Maintain the presentation, cleanliness, and organization of all bar areas, liquor rooms, beer coolers, storage areas, and service stations.
  • Stock bars with alcoholic beverages, including spirits, liquor, wine, beer, garnishes, syrups, mixers, and other beverage ingredients required for service.
  • Stock bars with non-alcoholic beverages, including juices, soft drinks, coffee supplies, bottled water, carbon dioxide, and related products.
  • Receive, organize, rotate, and store inventory using proper FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures and established storage standards.
  • Ensure bars, liquor rooms, and storage areas remain clean and compliant through regular sweeping, mopping, trash removal, recycling, and sanitation practices.
  • Replenish glassware, ice, paper goods, straws, napkins, utensils, and other service items throughout the shift.
  • Support private events, member events, and special functions by ensuring bars are appropriately stocked and prepared based on anticipated business levels.
  • Assist with inventory counts, stock monitoring, and identifying replenishment needs to support accurate ordering and inventory management.
  • Communicate low inventory levels, maintenance concerns, equipment issues, and operational needs to management in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with bartenders, servers, runners, and management to maintain efficient service and support operational goals.
  • Participate in training programs and maintain knowledge of beverage products, service standards, health and safety requirements, and Company policies.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, food safety standards, and Company policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a restaurant, hotel, club, bar, or hospitality environment preferred; equivalent enthusiasm, work ethic, and willingness to learn will also be considered.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain organization in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, multitask effectively, and support multiple service areas simultaneously.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Basic verbal communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and professionalism.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and flexible schedules as business needs require.
  • Previous beverage, bar, or inventory experience preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to continuously stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to frequently use hands and fingers to grasp, hold, reach, carry, stock, and manipulate beverage products, glassware, and equipment.
  • Must be able to regularly bend, stoop, twist, reach, crouch, kneel, squat, and climb as required to perform job duties.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and move up to 50 pounds without assistance and occasionally move heavier items with assistance.
  • Must be able to safely transport cases of liquor, beer, wine, kegs, glassware, ice, and other bar supplies throughout the property.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motions and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work in varying temperatures, including walk-in coolers, storage rooms, outdoor service areas, and high-volume bar environments.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

In accordance with New York law, the salary range for this role if filled within New York is listed below. The range for the position in other geographies may vary based on market differences. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
